User research Survey design

To complement existing usability metrics with deeper insights into how software influences users' feelings of stress or calm, their productivity, and how well it aligns with their future needs.

Process

  1. Identifying the Need

Conducting preliminary research, including reviewing existing literature on usability and user experience, analyzing feedback on our current products, and identifying gaps in our understanding of user experience.

  1. Designing the Scale

Outlined the key areas the SIES needed to address: current impact on tasks and workflow, alignment with workflow requirements, effect on productivity and emotional state, future potential and adaptability, and overall user experience and expectations.

  1. Questionnaire Construction

Developed a set of statements for each area, using a Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree, 5 = Strongly Agree) for responses.

  1. Pilot Testing

The initial version of the SIES was pilot-tested with a small user group.

The Questionnaire

  • Focus: Assesses the current impact of software on users' tasks and productivity, as well as their expectations and visions for the future.

  • Content: Contains 10 questions, alternating between positive and negative aspects, covering the current effect on tasks and future potential.

  • Purpose: Aims to understand how the software influences users' day-to-day activities and their long-term expectations. It captures the emotional and practical impact of the software.

  • Importance: Understanding the impact and expectations helps in aligning the software with user needs and aspirations. It informs developers and designers about what users value and expect, guiding future improvements and features.
